The purpose of CEMP sites is to safeguard sites contributing to the CCAMLR Ecosystem Monitoring Programme.
Entry to CEMP sites is prohibited without a permit. Permits can only be issued by an appropriate authority for its own nationals. Each CEMP site has a Management Plan which must be complied with.

| 1. | Seal Islands, South Shetland Islands |
| 60°59'S, 55°23'W. Approximate area: 0.9 km2. Small islands and skerries 7 km north of the northwest corner of Elephant Island. The site includes all land and rocks within 5.5 km of the highest point on the largest island in the group. Proposed by the USA. Adopted CCAMLR X, 1991 . | |
| 2. | Cape Shirreff and Telmo Island, South Shetland Islands |
| 62°29'S, 60°48'W. Approximate area: 3.47 km2. A low ice-free peninsula towards the western end of the north coast of Livingston Island, between Barclay Bay and Hero Bay. Cape Shirreff is 3 km from north to south and 0.5 km to 1.2 km from east to west. The southern boundary of the site is at the ice cap margin. Telmo Island is the largest of a small group of ice-free islets 2 km west of Cape Shirreff. A critical site because of its Antarctic fur seal and penguin breeding colonies. Krill fisheries are within the foraging range of these species. Proposed by Chile. Adopted CCAMLR XIII, 1994. (This site is also designated as SSSI No. 32). | |
